I continue to play an advisory role for the Three Rivers Educational Technology Conference (TRETC). This fall the advisory team will finish the planning for the upcoming conference that will take place at the Fox Chapel Area High School on Monday, January 18, 2027. Jesse Schell from Schell Games will be the opening keynote speaker. During the day there will be a variety of presentations looking at how educational technology can “amplify” the learning process. The day will include: Featured Speakers, a Student Showcase, Hands on Workshops, Topic-based Mini-Summits, an Innovation Hall, special forums for IT/Tech Directors and Educational Leaders, and Interactive Exhibits. Join this regional event and leave with one new skill, one big question, one meaningful connection.
This fall I had a chance to reflect on my latest travels. In August I journeyed with my stepson, Jacob Dulberger, to the Edinburgh International Film Festival. We sampled a variety of shorts, features, and had an opportunity to hear Ken Burns talk about his documentary filmmaking. We also enjoyed our stay on Broughton Street as we explored the city and the sights and sounds of places like the Royal Mile, Leith, New Town, and Old Town. We took a side trip to the Isle of Skye where we encountered amazing views.
In April I joined a educators from high schools around the region and from the University of Pittsburgh to look at how to implement emerging technologies, including Generative AI, into a K-20 framework using the research behind the Learning Sciences. This fall the project will reconvene as educators look at the impact of AI on Education. In January at the TRETC Conference the Learning Sciences and Emerging Technologies (LSET) Hub will highlight the initial findings from the project.
